1. World AIDS Day Marks 14th Anniversary on December 1 [return
to top]
The United
Nations Programme on AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates that over 40 million
people in the world are living with HIV/AIDS. Research shows that
by the time your child reaches third grade, he or she already
will have heard about the disease. Yet while kids are hearing
about HIV/AIDS early on, what they are learning is often incorrect
and frightening. Take the time to set the record straight. Sharing
this information will not only help keep your child safe, but
also lays the groundwork for future conversations about HIV/AIDS
preventative behavior.

2.
Tip of the Month: Create an Open Environment [return

Some adults
mistakenly believe that HIV/AIDS is only a disease of homosexuals.
Whatever your beliefs, try not to let your opinions orfeelings
prevent you from giving your child the facts about HIV and its
transmission. It's information that's essential to their health
and safety.
